How to reduce an image to 20 KB
20 KB is about 1/200th of a phone photo. It is typical for signature uploads and older portals. You can get there with readable results, but only if the pixel size is small.
Realistic targets
- Signature: crop tightly, about 300–500 px wide. Black ink on white compresses extremely well.
- Photo: about 200–300 px wide. Faces are still clear at this size on a form.
- Documents: 20 KB is usually too small for readable text; check whether the form really means 200 KB.
Steps
- Crop to just the signature or face.
- In the compressor, tap 20 KB. Optionally set Max width to 300 (photo) or 450 (signature).
- If you see "could not reach target", lower Max width further.
Tips for signatures
Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper, photograph in daylight without shadows, and crop close. Grey paper texture and shadows add noise, and noise is what eats file size.
