Compress a photo to 50 KB for online applications
50 KB limits are common on exam registration and government recruitment portals, often together with a minimum such as 20 KB. At 50 KB you have enough budget for a clear headshot, but not for a full-resolution phone photo.
What fits in 50 KB
| Content | Dimensions that work | Quality |
|---|---|---|
| Headshot photo | 400–600 px wide | 70–85 |
| Signature on white | up to 900 px wide | 80+ |
| Document photo (ID card) | ~1000 px wide | 50–65 |
How to do it
- Crop first — remove background around the face or document. Fewer pixels, fewer bytes.
- In the compressor, tap 50 KB. For headshots, set Max width to 600.
- Download and confirm the size in your file manager (right-click → Properties on Windows, Get Info on Mac, file details on Android).
When there is also a minimum size
Some portals say "between 20 KB and 50 KB". If the result is too small, raise the Max width or clear it — larger dimensions add bytes. KBSnap aims just under your target, so the file usually lands in the upper part of the range.
JPG or WebP?
WebP is smaller at the same quality, but many official portals only accept JPG/JPEG. Use JPG unless the form explicitly allows WebP.
